why you dont hear much about this happening in Eastern European countries..especially since they are so poor?

Barcelona especially Las Ramblas and Plaza Real have bad reputations namely for gangs of gypsies pickpocketing and stealing bags. Common sense is all that is required dont put bag on floor when sitting in cafe or bar dont fall for the old bird s**t on your back trick . the police presence in the tourist areas is is very apparant. I have never had any problems in many many years of travelling to Spain
