Bleach on white with embroidery?
Hi, has anyone had success with bleaching a white garment that has some colored embroidery? I have a white dress with a stain, but the dress also has green stitching all over, including right by the stain. If I only put bleach directly on the stain, could it also discolor the green stitching? Thanks for the help!
Assuming the dress is machine washable, you can use Oxi Clean. Oxi Clean won't change the color of the embroidery. I don't recommend regular bleach (Clorox). Clorox will definitely ruin the embroidery, no matter how careful you are.
1. Pretreat the stain first with dish washing liquid to "loosen" it. It doesn't matter which brand you use, as long as it's a good name brand. Most people recommend Dawn, but I've found other brands work just as well...Ajax, Palmolive, etc. Rub the dish washing liquid into the stain and allow it to sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
2. Launder as usual, but add 2 scoops of Oxi Clean to the load.
If the stain remains even after all this, use "Fast Orange" hand cleaner. Pour some Fast Orange on the stains and rub between your thumbs. Fast Orange contains pumice, which is abrasive, so rub carefully...however, you CAN remove extremely stubborn stains with it and not harm the dress, as long as you are gentle. After you have rubbed out the stain, launder as usual.
